Delaware Pacem in Terris (Latin for “peace on earth”) is a 58-year-old peace and justice nonprofit whose mission is to build relationships that transform minds and foster healing and peace.
Arts for Peace, a project of Delaware Pacem in Terris, is an annual public exhibit of art made by K-12 students, showing their visions of peace. Last Sunday I photographed examples of their visions, now on display in the Wilmington Central Public Library. See examples below.
Over five hundred people, including one hundred artists, attended this opening exhibition. Jurors will select the strongest messages for peace. High quality reproductions of the selected artwork will then be framed and travel to prominent locations throughout the state, including Nemours Children's Hospital, The Grand Theater, the State of Delaware Courthouses, Social Service centers, and Children and Family First locations in Delaware's three counties. The project keeps growing, both in terms of the schools and community groups whose art students participate, and in terms of new venues for exhibiting their artwork. In 2026 the Peace Arts project will extend into Pennsylvania. An exhibit will be installed at Philadelphia International Airport.
