Spring is a time for festivals and farmers' markets.
Yesterday I walked with a friend to Rockford Park to see what we could find at the annual Flower Market. Actually it's more than a flower market. It's also a carnival with wild rides, loads of junk food, and live music.
This morning I walked to Brandywine Park where a new series of Saturday farmers' markets is in its second week. The weather was super and the cherry tree alley there was crowded with tents and booths and shoppers with kids.
My younger son lives in London. Weather permitting he does a lot of his grocery shopping at outdoor markets where buyers and merchants engage in friendly conversation and come to know each other. I hope that the Brandywine Park farmers' market may come to that.
There's another farmers' market outside Obie's frame shop in the Forty Acres neighborhood of Wilmington. That place has already become like the personable ones I've visited in London. May the trend grow momentum!
Late Spring is my favorite time of year. It's like everything and everyone on the whole of the round earth is wide awake and ready for fun! I'm remembering one of my favorite songs from Camelot.
It's May, it's May, the lusty month of May
That darling month when everyone throws self-control away
It's time to do a wretched thing or two
And try to make each precious day, one you'll always rue
Great pictures!
